13 JULY 2020, MANILA—The ÀóÖ¦ÊÓÆµ on Monday launches its electronic-payment portal (EPP) in its bid to digitize the collection of port charges to reduce face-to-face transaction and comply with the ‘new normal’ scheme due to the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The EPP, designed and developed by in-house technology and online platform experts, is a major upgrade of the existing system of the PPA, which is slowly being put into place since 2018.

7 MAY 2020, MANILA—The ÀóÖ¦ÊÓÆµ is implementing a Balik-Probinsya program for all its organic and outsourced personnel in support of the Government’s drive encouraging workers in the Metro to relocate instead to the countryside.

The order implementing the project has already been released Wednesday, May 6, and interested Manila-based personnel have until May 13 to enlist in the program. The Human Resource Management Department of PPA is spearheading the initiative.

24 APRIL 2020, MANILA—Lessees and port operators having contracts with the ÀóÖ¦ÊÓÆµ can heave a sigh of relief as the agency gives a 30-day reprieve in the payment of rental and concession fees.

The memorandum circular, which was signed on Thursday, is in accordance with the Bayanihan We Heal as One Act encouraging private and government entities to give respite to people as the country continues to reel from the effects of the Coronavirus 2019 pandemic (COVID-19).

17 APRIL 2020, MANILA—The ÀóÖ¦ÊÓÆµ is set to open the South Harbor Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) medical treatment facility as early as next week as retrofitting of the passenger terminal is likely to finish this weekend.

PPA is fast-tracking the completion of the facility in its bid to boost the medical treatment capacity of the National Capital Region as well as its nearby cities and provinces, which has been lacking due to the increasing number of COVID-19-infected persons.

13 APRIL 2020, MANILA—With the number of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients continuing to rise, the ÀóÖ¦ÊÓÆµ, together with the Department of Transportation and the Philippine Coast Guard, is retrofitting the South Harbor passenger terminal building into a COVID-19 treatment facility.

14 APRIL 2020, MANILA—The ÀóÖ¦ÊÓÆµ is feeling the pinch of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic in all aspects of its operations.

This after PPA’s income for March plunges 79% from the registered P1.401 billion in the same period of last year to a meager P300.93 million this year, approximately 16 days after the imposition of the Community Quarantine in Luzon.

8 APRIL 2020, MANILA—With the fight against the Coronavirus Disease expected to drag a little further, the ÀóÖ¦ÊÓÆµ has installed decontamination and misting tents in all its ports and terminals nationwide as another safety measure in the battle against the dreaded disease.Ìý The facility initially aims to disinfect all individuals entering and exiting the port premises.

31 MARCH 2020, MANILA—ÀóÖ¦ÊÓÆµ General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago warned of a possible port shutdown if cargo owners and consignees continue to shun calls to withdraw cleared, ready for delivery and overstaying cargoes.

Santiago said that despite efforts to transfer cleared and overstaying containers from the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) to a facility inside the Manila North Harbor, there areÌýstill not enough breathing space for the Manila port terminals to operate efficiently and productively.

31 MARCH 2020—The Philippine Ports AuthorityÌý(PPA) gladly received some 1,500 pieces of face masksÌýfrom the AboitizÌýFoundation to arm its frontline personnel with the much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE). ÌýAccording to PPA General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago, the donation cameÌýin handy as the port’s frontline personnel remainsÌýbusy ensuring the smooth flow of cargoes, essential and otherwise, into the local and international supply chain.
