20 MAY 2021, MANILA—Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the ֦Ƶ continues to bring in positive developments one after the other.

This, after PPA General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago was recently elected Vice President for Asia, South East and Oceania of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH).

In a letter dated 13 May 2021 signed by IAPH Secretary-General Masahiko Furuichi, the PPA was informed about the result of the Voting of Confidence by the IAPH members which was undertaken from 12 April to 03 May 2021.

25 MAY 2021, MANILA—The ֦Ƶ remitted an additional P221 million to the National Treasury in a bid to help the Government in its anti-COVID-19 efforts.

The additional amount raises the total dividend remitted to the Government for year 2020 by an additional P221M or a total of P3.77 billion representing 57.5% of the agency’s net income for 2020.

26 MARCH 2021, MANILA—In preparation for the possible increase in the number of travelers due to the upcoming Holy Week, and to address the rise in COVID-19 cases, ports under the control of the ֦Ƶ are now on ‘heightened alert’ to ensure that proper health and safety protocols are observed ahead of the Lenten break.

Special attention is also being implemented in ports located in the “NCR Plus” to guarantee that only authorized persons can enter and exit the facilities.

24 MARCH 2021, MANILA—Despite facing difficulties posed by the pandemic, the ֦Ƶ managed to collect billions of pesos in dividend remittance to the national government for fiscal year 2020.

And while existing law mandates PPA to give at least 50% of its net income annually to the government, PPA General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago said the PPA Board has approved the initiative to give 56% of its net income for 2020 to the national coffers to assist the government in its COVID-19 response.

05 FEBRUARY, 2021, MANILA--Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ֦Ƶ and the APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Center, Port of Antwerp International (APEC-PAI) have entered into a new agreement on port cooperation in a bid to create a framework for a mutually beneficial cooperation between the PPA and the APEC-PAI in the field of port training, consultancy, port management and investment opportunities.

21 JANUARY 2021, MANILA—True to its commitment to help promote environmental protection and sustainability, the ֦Ƶ has ordered the mandatory planting of trees and mangroves for every contract, accreditation and permits issued by the agency.

The order takes effect on the 2nd of February after the 15-day publication period reckoning from 19 January 2021.

23 SEPTEMBER 2020, MANILA—With the end goal to facilitate the movement of seafarers to and from the country, the ֦Ƶ has formally opened a dedicated RT-PCR Molecular Testing Laboratory for this purpose.

With a daily testing capacity of approximately 2,000 and a 24 to 48-hour turnaround time for results, the new facility will cater to the testing requirements for crew-change hub ports controlled by the PPA.

19 SEPTEMBER 2020, MANILA—The ֦Ƶ on Friday formally launches its contact tracing system in its bid to facilitate the movement of people inside the ports while maintaining the highest health protocols amid the threat of the Coronavirus Disease pandemic.

Developed jointly by PPA in-house information technology experts and third-party developer Cosmotech Philippines, Inc., the mobile app TRAZE, has the capability to trace the movement of individuals inside PPA facilities without connecting to the internet.

20 JULY 2020, MANILA—A week after launching its electronic payment portal, the ֦Ƶ on Monday, formally launches its Online Recruitment Portal (ORP), digitizing the agency’s recruitment processes from application to appointment.

The ORP is also in response to the ‘new normal’ being implemented by the government to help prevent the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 by reducing, if not eliminating, face-to-face transactions—one of the single biggest contributors in the spread of the virus.

12 JUNE 2020, MANILA--TheDepartment of Transportation and the ֦Ƶ announce the completion of 14 strategic port projects completed in the midst of the country’s fight against the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

These projects, when finally operated, will boost the operational capability of the ports particularly with the near resumption of interisland passenger travel and the movement of essential goods while the country tries to veer away from the clutches of the pandemic.
